Welcome to Studio3LX. We are here to help you bring your production to life through the magic of lighting. We are able to provide many different services whether that's Lighting Design, Lighting Programmer as well as having access to our stock of professional lighting equipment.
Hello, I'm Jamie Vella and I'm a lighting Designer/Programmer based in Derbyshire/London. Studio3LX is the name I brand my work with. I have been designing lighting for shows in a professional capacity since 2015. As you can see from the selected projects on my website I have worked on a large variety of projects. These vary from small scale school hall productions, up to small scale national tours.
I have had a passion for Lighting since I was at school and continued that through college whilst studying Technical Events at Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies. Since then I have worked tirelessly in the industry both as a freelancer and as a full time venue technician.
Whilst working in this vast industry I have worked on projects in the film world such as short films and music videos. But the majority of my work has been within the live entertainment world. The bulk of this being theatrical performances, however I have worked on many concerts at varying scales and of varying genre.
I am also proud to say that I am the winner of the ABTT (Association of British Theatre Technicians) Emerging Excellence Award 2020. This is a great honour to be recognised for doing my job and having a good time while doing it!
When I am not a lighting designer, I spend my days working as a 'Lighting Control & Visualisation Assistant Manager' at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. This role involves programming world class Opera and Ballet for world class designers. As well as the programming of new shows I am also responsible for reviving shows from our repertoire of productions and ensuring that documentation on these productions is kept up to date. Working at this beautiful 2,200 seat venue is an honour, and a privilege.
Prior to this I worked at Derby Theatre as a lighting technician putting on received shows and produced works in both the 535 seat main auditorium and the 115 seat studio. Whilst in the job at Derby Theatre I have lead fit ups from venue lighting perspective for shows such as 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat' UK Tour as well as the 'Blood Brothers' UK Tour. As well as that we work on up to 3 main house produced works a year which I work closely with our freelance lighting designers during production in order to put on the highest quality production possible. As well as that I program the lighting also using ETC Family Consoles.
Among all of these wonderful live productions I have also dipped my toes into the world of film, working on music videos for artists such as Mabel and RAYE as a Lighting Board/Desk Op.

Studio3LX also owns a commendable amount of professional lighting equipment to supplement existing equipment in venues. This equipment enriches larger productions whilst can easily form a complete package for a smaller production.
We can provide our own lighting control console which is an ETC Eos Programming Wing which operates on the Eos Family software. This is an industry standard for most touring theatrical shows.
Furthermore Studio3LX has a stock of Moving Lights and Intelligent fixtures which enrich our productions.
