The story of PT. Barnum and the origins of the circus brought to life by the fabulous Derby Youth Musical Theatre.

This show was loud, lively and colourful throughout. This show presented many technical challenges for the ambitious amateur company, and yet PT. Barnum did indeed walk the tightrope.

For this production, I found myself in an interesting position. I have extensive knowledge of Derby Theatre as one of the full time technicians there and was therefore liaising between DYMT and Derby Theatre. This put me in a very good position as a lighting designer as it meant I knew exactly where the set pieces were going to end up, and had comprehensive understanding of the layout well before I saw a rehearsal. This meant that I was able to draw an accurate 3D model of the stage and set to pre program the lighting with. Pre-programming this show was essential as there were 311 manually triggered cues for this one week amateur musical.
